For centuries they have been ruling their existence in the southern spiny desert of Madagascar through traditional knowledge or "Sacred Ecology". The bark mask on her face is both a bug repellent and sunblock. A persistent drought brought forth by climate change and an epidemic of malaria and poverty are testing the limits of their resilience.
