I named everything I could think of: a very long, inflammatory, and critical list of him, our house, the mess, events, and circumstances. I went all the way petty, even naming the throw blanket on my lap. I HATE that fucking throw blanket and always have. There we sat. He didn't defend himself, didn't disagree, didn't run around trying to fix it. We just sat there - the madness and the sadness getting to hang out as long as it needed. The next day he asked if there is anything on the list I want to actually address. Truth is, I don't know. Some of it just got stuck to the anger - not the cause of it, just in alignment with the emotion. Truth is I feel better. Truth is some things I will always be mad about and sad about. But the gift of just getting to have the feelings, to not have to fight for them or justify them, to have another heart say: I SEE YOU. I SEE THIS WITH YOU - is a golden balm. Sad, perhaps. Mad, maybe. Grateful and connected and held - absolutely. Now to give this gift in return, to him, to everyone, to anyone."
