"As politically engaged educators, we were particularly interested in exploring works from @ニューヨーク近代美術館's recent rehang in response to the immigration ban which showcases work by artists from some of the named countries. How do these works enhance the story of modernism as told in the museum’s collection galleries? How do they relate to other works on view that are more traditionally considered part of the western canon? We found that the work “K+L+32+H+4. Mon père et moi (My Father and I)” by Iranian artist Charles Hossein Zenderoudi installed near French artist Henri Matisse’s “Dance (I)” sparked an engaging discussion. While both works deal with flattened human forms and both artists made these works in Paris, Zenderoudi’s felt tip pen markings seemed more geometric and far more ornate, perhaps referencing Persian decorative motifs. Matisse’s work more obviously draws from European painting traditions."—Rachel Ropeik, Manager of Public Engagement, Alan Siese, Public Programs Associate #MuseumInstaSwap #Guggenheim #MoMA #MoMACollection #Matisse #Zenderoudi #ArtSpeaks
