Paul #Czanne’s painting "Still Life: Plate of Peaches" (1879–80), was part of the Thannhauser Frame Project, an ongoing initiative to restore, replace, or reproduce the frames of significant paintings held in our Thannhauser Collection of early modern European art. "Still Life: Plate of Peaches" was housed in a heavy, ornate frame, making it visually overwhelming rather than heightening the impact of Cézanne’s delicate composition. In 2007, Guggenheim conservators and curators initiated a search for a period frame that was consonant with the broader framing aesthetics of #Impressionism. The final choice was a French frame in the style of Louis XIII (1630–1643) sourced from Arnold Wiggins & Sons, an esteemed London dealer of historical frames and mirrors.
