Mabel C.S. D'Olier wore this uniform while serving with the American Friends Service Committee during World War I. Religious organizations, such as the YMCA, YWCA, Salvation Army, Jewish Welfare Board, Knights of Columbus, and American Friends Service Committee, were very active in war service.
Women joined these organizations, and donned official uniforms, providing civilian war relief at home and abroad, and to minister to soldiers in the form of food, entertainment, and spiritual support.
