We hope you have a fragrant and fun Sunday! A few #AmericanSmells from our collection for you today. Perfumes were one of the first cosmetic products to be sold by American pharmacies. Deodorants and antiperspirants came much later in the early 20th century. ?? You'd simply mask body odors with perfume applied directly to clothing or handkerchiefs. Oils that provided scent included lavender, rose, sandalwood, and musk. ?? We're still researching the perfumes in our collection, but here are a few that caught our eye. (Or nose!) ?

#1 Ambush Eau de Cologne, 1965-1970.
#2 Radio Girl perfume, made by Consolidated Royal Chemical Corporation.

#3 Pegasus perfume, around 1988. (Anyone remember this one?) #4 Charlie perfume, around 1973. This perfume was launched with an ad campaign that featured model Shelley Hack wearing pantsuits—a change from the dresses and romance in previous perfumery advertising. The campaign targeted a more liberated and independent woman.
