John Lydon, the wild-eyed rock star who first came to prominence telling his listeners that they had no future, has been spending a lot of time lately thinking about the past. The frontman of Public Image Ltd. (@pilofficial) — who also goes by the alias #JohnnyRotten when he performs with the #SexPistols — sat down last year and wrote out the lyrics for all the songs he has composed over a 4-decade career. Now he’s publishing the results from this guided tour of his psyche as a book called “Mr. Rotten’s Songbook,” which comes out on Friday. Inside, you’ll find handwritten lyrics for Sex Pistols songs like “God Save the Queen” and “Anarchy in the UK,” as well as more nuanced @pilofficial tracks like “Death Disco.” The process helped the 61-year-old artist reconnect with emotions he has felt at various stages of his career. “I’m a great seething ball of everything I’ve learned in my life,” said. The photographers @brinsonbanks took this portrait of John Lydon in Los Angeles.
