For 2 hours last week, a bull ran through the streets of Jamaica, Queens. And all the while, the @nypd engaged in a frenetic and televised pursuit. What they really needed? A cowboy. “Cops are not cowboys. They don’t think like cowboys,” said James Parker, president of the Black Cowboys Association of Brooklyn. In his apartment in East New York, Brooklyn, James, a Korean War veteran, keeps the ultimate bull-catching weapon: a lasso. “I said, ‘Oh my God, I wish I was in Queens,’ ” he said. “I would have caught that bull.’” Besides the occasional stray farm and forest animal, New York City is also home to a number of people who specialize in wrangling them. And in the case of the rambling bull in Queens, cowboys like James said they wished they’d been summoned or at least asked to share some #cowboywisdom. On Monday, @stephensperanza photographed James with one of his ponies, Hot Chocolate, at a stable in Howard Beach, Queens.
