@rdegive photographed this mannequin inside a building on the campus of Erasmus High School in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood. #AlexanderHamilton helped finance the construction of Erasmus Hall Academy. The 2-story structure, erected in 1787 with contributions from Hamilton as well as Aaron Burr, John Jay and Robert Livingston, was the first secondary school in New York State. It’s considered a grand example of Georgian-Federal architecture and an ambitious vision of education. When it was founded, Erasmus Hall Academy housed not just classrooms but the high school students themselves — the original 26 students lived in the building. But it’s been closed for more than a decade, and these days it’s in an advancing state of disrepair. (Just ask this #mannequin.) Now, preservationists are dropping Hamilton’s name in an attempt to pressure the city to save the building from further decay. Visit the link in our profile to see more.
