My Journey: 62kg to 72kg ??The scales aren't always the best way to judge progress ? I had always been skinny...then I went to university. I lived off a diet of pizza and vodka. By the end of second year I had become "skinny fat". I had gained a stone but I was slim and untoned. I then used various fad diets such as low carb, low fat and low calorie approaches to get myself looking like the photo on the left. I was 62kg and unfit. I couldn't run for the bus without panting. Thankfully I soon became tired of being tired. Of yoyo diets. Of hating exercise. I made an Instagram account and I decided I wanted to try lifting weights like the girls I followed. This began a 5 year journey to where I am now in the right hand photo. I'm 72kg - yes 10 kilos heavier - and I'm fitter, healthier and happier than ever before. It was a slow process of self education. I went through phases of bodybuilding, IIFYM, paleo... everything! You name it, I tried it. There was A LOT of trial and error. But a couple of years ago I reached a point where I finally achieved my own personal balance. I don't fit into a box or a label. I train flexibly, in ways I enjoy. I lift weights. I do cardio. I play around with headstands. I like to try new classes, box and do crossfit on occasion. I train to get fitter and stronger, not to look a certain way. I eat mostly plant based and completely intuitively. I listen to my body and nourish it with good quality wholesome food. I don't put pressure on myself to train or eat a certain way. And most importantly? I've gone from regularly criticising my body to loving myself unapologetically. That is the biggest progress of all. Now, I am full of endless motivation to train hard and eat well because I love myself! And I encourage you guys to love yourself too ? If you want to learn more about achieving a balanced lifestyle check out my book Strong which is linked on my profile ? #strongzvd #girlgains #strongsquad #gainingweightiscool
