Photo @Keith Ladzinski / While hiking through the #TrailOfTheCedars in #GlacierNationalPark late one evening I came across this scene of Yellow ferns and undergrowth in the dark grove. The light was surreal, faintly illuminated from a dim glow of clouds high above from the already set sun. This forest is special - Positioned on the eastern edge of the maritime climate of the Pacific Northwest, the Lake McDonald Valley is the extreme eastern limit for western hemlocks and red cedars. The humidity in this valley allows the cedars here to grow over 100 feet tall with life spans of more than 500 years old. It's truly unique place in North America.
