Photo by @daviddoubilet Cuba is vintage Caribbean: Critically endangered elkhorn coral has all but vanished throughout its range but thrives in Cuba's Garden of the Queen Marine Preserve. Thick schools of snappers and grunts fill the broad branches and spill out across the sand floor, this image may not be a nail biting super predator shot but this picture of nearly extinct elkhorn coral jammed with fish beyond capacity makes my heart leap. Cuba had protected these remote reefs with determined vigilance and now the world marine community needs to recognize and support Cuba in protecting this living museum in the sea.
