A New York City bus idled in the rain last night on Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights, Queens. Earlier this week, our staff photographer @jamesestrin presented his Facebook and @Instagram followers with a challenge: Help create a @nytimes photo assignment. More than 100 people responded, and voted to send @jamesestrin to take street photographs along Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights. This neighborhood in north-central Queens is notably diverse. Businesses selling food from all over the world line Roosevelt Avenue, and 74th Street, where @jamesestrin started his walk, is home to several South Asian markets and restaurants.
