In the past weeks I've been asked 2 do numerous PSAs encouragin people 2 vote, & when I explain 2 them that I myself cant vote cuz I'm a "felon" many are confused. Yet, that's just 1 of the repercussions of havin been convicted of a crime. As I watched this documentary, The 13th, I realized even MORE than I'd already learned during my entire ordeal: arrest, trial, conviction, incarceration, release, reintegration . I often c comments with complaints of how I need 2 "get over the jail thing" & "get on with life" or even "that's what she get 4 doin [xyz]"... This movie explains what I b trying 2 say; I wish I could post the whole thing just to make sure as many people as possible c it. I made this quick edit & included the parts that literally had me n tears.- I thought some special calculation was done when I got offered a plea "deal" of 3 years, I'm thinkin now that that's the statistical number that ensures your life is totally screwed upon release. Everyone I knew insisted that I not go to trial but with my dumbass inaccurate knowledge of the court system largely based on tv & movies I thought I had a chance, I'd be treated fairly & the TRUTH would come out? Only 2 find the object was not 2 find the truth but instead a CONVICTION. The prison system is a corporation; it is driven by monetary gain. I will probably get some type of backlash behind this post cuz unfortunately Im still technically n prison, just servin time n the "free world" & am constantly reminded of that, verbatim, when I check in at parole/post-release supervision. I am well past the 8 year sentence I was given but have 3 more years to be "monitored". If they deem I should b back n prison I"ll have 2 serve time, even tho I've been productive n society for 2 years & working, taking care of my family, obeying the law and paying my dues- yes, every month I have 2 pay money 2 some company 2b watched?. I have a curfew, have 2 ask 4 permission 2 travel, & ultimately my career is limited due to my inability to travel unless "they" feel it's ok. I've lost millions cuz of this, could've paid 4 my son college numerous times but as long as I'm n by curfew who cares #TiredOfBeingQuiet #RemyMa
