We just love that beautiful wedding dress and bouquet. This photo was taken by Addison N. Scurlock.
According to an article in @smithsonianmagazine, "He had come to Washington, DC, in 1900 from Fayetteville, North Carolina, with his parents and two siblings. Although he was only 17, he listed 'photographer' as his profession in that year's census." The studio he founded successfully documented many aspects of African American life in DC and much of its remaining records and photos can be found in our Archives Center. Our neighbor @nmaahc opens today, Saturday, September 24. Check their website for a schedule of opening celebrations and music. If you're planning to visit the National Mall this weekend, please be aware of road closures.
Scurlock Studio Records, ca. 1905-1994, Archives Center, National Museum of American History.
