国立アメリカ歴史博物館のインスタグラム(amhistorymuseum) - 9月23日 05時50分

In this photo, African American stylists practice their craft. Beauty salons and other black businesses provided safe spaces for political organizing. They also provided profits that helped sustain black community institutions and fund the struggle for civil rights.
Financially independent and free from the control of white employers, black women who owned and franchised beauty salons became important grassroots leaders in the civil rights movement.

Visit our "Black Main Street" case in "American Enterprise," now open.
Also note: On Saturday, September 24, we will open late at around 1 p.m. due to the festivities surrounding the opening of @NMAAHC.
