Despite America’s abundance of coastlines, until now its #wind farms have spun exclusively onshore -- but that’s changing. We took a closer look at America’s first offshore #windfarm, located three miles off the coast of Block Island, Rhode Island. The @DeepwaterWind farm will use five #GE Haliade wind turbines, built on GE’s Pure Torque #technology and feature a six megawatt direct-drive permanent magnet generator, supporting 90% of Block Island’s electrical demands.
