Photo by @renan_ozturk, Caption by @taylorfreesolo #TheLastHoneyHunter story ~ On every expedition there is a shot taken that means a lot to the person behind the camera but may not make the final magazine cut and may not even look great on Instagram. But the photo matters because of the effort that went into it. Renan isn't shy to admit he is a drone addict, a lover of aerial cinematography, a seeker of birds eye views. They reveal perspectives and scales unseen from the ground, moments that can tell a greater story of humans in a landscape. ~ The backstory of this photo started with a phone call. "Taylor I'm stuck at the Dubai airport pleading in tears with the head of police not to send me back to the U.S... Help." They had fairly confiscated all of the drone batteries (because yes, Lithium Ion is not the safest thing to put in the belly of a 747), but thankfully in the end they returned his passport and allowed him through. Having little luck in Nepal, he asked me to come help find batteries and get them into the high jungle village of Sadhi where he was then covering the story. I managed to find two from @jongriffithphotography (the wrong kind so we soldered on new ports and prayed they would work) and headed into the valley to join the team. ~ It was the day of the harvest and Renan had been shooting for hours from a rope above Maule. Having only a few moments left before the hives were all cut and the harvest complete, he speed-rappelled down from his 'on the wall' position, sprinted across the river and launched the drone off a slippery river rock. Forehead scrunched with focus and sweat pouring down his arms, he captured the vantage point that so compels his work as a photographer in the few minutes we had. @ben_knight @camp4collective @m_synnott @jetbutterflies
