A few Whovians have been asking us if we have a Dalek on display. Don't worry, this contraption doesn't aim to exterminate. Instead, it aims to create. This is a Bakelizer, a steam pressure vessel used by chemist and inventor Leo H. Baekeland to produce commercial quantities of the first totally synthetic plastic. Used by Dr. Baekeland around 1909, it was dubbed "Old Faithful" by its early operators. Made of iron alloys and still in usable condition, it's nearly 72 inches tall.
