The article delves into some of the potential effects of climate change on this critical water resource. Hydroelectric projects involving the Volta River Basin are currently in the works, and intend to increase energy and food production, however, climate change may hinder the results of these projects. The article on CCAFS continues, “…the researchers with the International Water Management Institute and their partners concluded that the combined effects of higher temperatures and diminished rain could mean that by the year 2100, all of the current and planned hydroelectric projects in the basin would not even generate as much power as existing facilities do now.
