Video by @bertiegregory // Just off the coast of Canada's British Columbia sits Vancouver Island, a landmass the size of Maryland with some of the most wild landscapes and impressive predators in the world, particularly along its rugged and remote west coast. "It's one of the last places on earth where wild land meets wild ocean," Gregory says. The west coast is home to an intricate ecosystem and extensive network of inlets, where black bears, sea lions, whales, otters, and, most importantly, coastal wolves, roam the land. The coastal wolf is a unique type of wolf that has become a wild obsession for Gregory; it was on this island that Gregory first encountered this elusive predator, an experience that changed his life. "I first fell in love with [Vancouver Island] back in 2011 when a wildlife tour guide took me under his wing. He taught me how to find all of the animals on the coast, but one animal in particular stood out from the rest: a female coastal wolf, the leader of her pack." Gregory made it his mission to return to the island and spend three months exploring its desolate west coast, an area Gregory calls his happy place, to document the incredible lives and behaviors of his fleeting, furry friend.
