We love this detail of hieroglyphs captured by @artmjrla from a stone sarcophagus made over 2,500 years ago. The owner of the sarcophagus was Ankhnesneferiba, a daughter of King Psamtek II (reigned 595–589 BC). She appears on the lid holding a crook and flail, signs of authority that were normally reserved for kings. She held authority as ‘God’s Wife of Amun’, the last in a line of princesses whom the pharaohs installed in Thebes to curb the power of its priests.

The inscriptions on the sarcophagus are an eclectic mix of religious texts to help the deceased attain the afterlife.
