Photo by @nickcobbing As I pack my bags for another Arctic expedition, it's comforting to know that should something go wrong there are people working in the Arctic Ocean, watching and waiting, ready to apply their training to the Search And Rescue procedure (SAR). This picture was made earlier in the year during the winter season, it shows a training exercise undertaken by the expert crew who pilot the Sysselmannen of Svalbard's rescue helicopters. Drills like this take place often, whenever a vessel and willing volunteers are available to practice. Knowing that the team is at the top of their game, familiar with weather and equipment, inspires confidence in all of us that venture into cold Northern waters.
