They gather for warmth and security against avian predators. After a week or more at sea, the parents have to go through incredible effort to relocate their chick. They use audio cues to identify one another but the problem is that every hungry chick thinks that this could be their parent and harasses the poor adult who is trying to accomplish this very serious task at hand.
