We're swapping outfits! Textiles can't stay on display long because they're very sensitive to light. So we rotate them. In this photo taken before the museum opened to the public, the new dress waits to go on display while the previous dress waits to be rotated back to the comfy darkness of low-humidity storage. Designed by avant-garde California fashion designer Rudi Gernreich, the new dress is from the 1960s. He was known for his use of cutouts, vinyl, and plastic.
