We know that the most powerful thing we can do is introduce people each other, so Dani talked to Razan at a camp in Greece to ask them what they wanted us to know. Razan is an 11-year old refugee from Damascus, Syria. Now living in cramped, flimsy tent on the unused train tracks of Idomeni, she loves to study, is an A student and was proud to tell us that she got full marks in her English exam at school back home in Syria. She dreams of being a pharmacist one day. Razan said she would be happy if she lived in safety and peace, with no more war. All she wants is to study once again in a school. She hasn’t been in a classroom for one year and longs to learn another language. She tells us that she doesn’t like to see anyone cry, and her family told us she has the biggest heart and is the most sensitive one of them all. Razan sang us a song in Arabic: “Give us choice, Give us peace.” Her family cried silently while she sang. Beautiful Razan finished by saying: “I do not want to eat or drink or sit here, I just want to go to safety. I escaped from dying in the war in Syria and now I am dying slowly here.” Ten-year-old Yazan is Razan’s brother. Equally proud of his school marks, he wanted to show us his excellent school report from Syria. Back home, Yazan loved to play Pink Panther on his computer. When Dani asked him what makes him sad, with a bright smile he said he is always happy and staying strong. But he did say that he has bad asthma and sometimes suffers terribly. When he grows up, Yazan wants to be a doctor for children. If you are warm today, if your children are being fed and educated and if they are free from the ravages of war: please consider celebrating by loving Razan and Yazan. Please give out of gratitude.
