This photo here comes from the dense coastal redwood forest, on the northern side of Monterey Bay. Coastal redwoods are the tallest trees are on the planet, growing over 360 feet and some can have a diameter of nearly 20 feet. Being such a large tree, redwoods capture more carbon dioxide output from humans, than any other species of tree. The areas in which redwoods grow has been cut drastically in the last 2 centuries, so every park that protects them today is ensuring these giant pillars of the forest will live on for centuries!
