Monarch Butterflies, El Rosario Preserve, Mexico. A recent survey by the World Wildlife Fund in Mexico found that the population of North America's monarch butterflies are rebounding but still well below past numbers. The number of butterflies wintering in Mexico is estimated to now be around 150 million. The recent comeback is credited to more favorable weather and the planting of milkweed on the monarch's migration route. Two decades ago there were an estimated 1 billion butterflies on the migration route. Photo by @peteressick #thephotosociety #auroraphotos
