Just outside the northern boundary of Yellowstone National Park a native american bison hunt happens within meters of the park boundary. It is a meat harvest, the meat goes with reverence to the people who for centuries were sustained by the bounty from this great beast.

Yellowstone National Park harbors the only wild unfenced bison in the American west . The 4500 today have grown from 25 that found sanctuary in the park from the slaughter that wiped out millions as the west was being "conquered" and taken from native americans

Every winter around this time the Yellostone herds migrate to lower elevations to find food which becomes inaccessable under the hard frozen and refrozen snow in the park. When they leave the park they are not welcome. around 1000 must be culled by hunting or by capture and moving to locations that can and will take them. It is complicated.
