After three weeks marching up the Baltoro to Concordia and then up towards the disputed Line of Control and the Siachen, the soldiers will spend 3 months stationed between this camp and the one higher, positioned at roughly 20,000 ft, guarding the border.
On the other side of the border, facing he same elements, Indian soldiers endure similar hardships. Last week, nine Indian soldiers were lost to an avalanche, leaving only one alive who survived in the snow for six days.

In 2012, 140 Pakistani soldiers tragically died in an avalanche. Objectively, the majority of dangers faced in this conflict zone are those of environment...frostbite, altitude, cold, and Avalanche.
