Unlike crocodiles, #alligators can only survive in freshwater, as salinity levels slowly rise in the Everglades it will push alligators further north and inland. Photographing apex predators is always a delicate process, entering into their domain requires a tremendous amount of respect, awareness, understanding and caution. Snorkeling through the murky swamps and rivers can get your heart rate up. My friend Chris Gillette (@gatorboys_chris) understands the habitat and mannerisms of the incredible animals that live in the Everglades ecosystem and guided myself and @andy_mann into the wilderness here on an experience I won't soon forget. Watching each other's back we swam shoulder to shoulder, and at times in single file through thick undergrowth. To photograph this bull alligator I had to free dive to the bottom of the river floor and slowly move in for the photo. It was one of many amazing experiences from the day and was a true eye opener to how beautiful and delicate this place is.
