Martin: “Do you remember the first time you did crystal?” Douglas: “Hell yeah, it’s hard to forget." M: “It’s just such an impressive experience?" D: "Yeah, it’s a hell of an experience for the first time. I was wondering what the hell I had been doing to miss that. Why did I miss all that? And all of a sudden it hit me." M: "That’s what they say about heroin." D: "Yeah, it’s kinda… yeah, especially the main lining." M: "First time crystal main lining?" D: "Yeeeah, wow." M: "Are you trying to get off or are you just in a moment where you’re like .......You’re trying?" D: "Yeah…Well actually, I’m not trying to get off of it…I’m basically using it because I’ve quit a number of different things already cold turkey, alcohol being my longest one that I’ve quit, it’s been seventeen years and change now since I drank alcohol and about two and a half years, three, since I smoked crack cocaine...I don’t mess with that no more. That or alcohol." M: "You think it’s worse than meth?" D: "No, nowhere close. You don’t get no spirit. It drains you of your spirit and it drains you of your energy and it drains you of your mental understanding itself." M: "Crack does? You think crack is worse?" D: "I think it is, yes, less manageable. Completely less manageable. Much too much of an urge to get more. It goes too fast. It eats up too fast...It goes through everything much too quick." M: "What do you do to come by money?" D: "I do recycling…I have no problem with it either ‘cause I’d rather do that than rob, steal, take from somebody like I used to.” .
