Ocean surf, illuminated in the swirling incoming tide by the glowing lights of Seaside, Oregon, on Seaside Beach.

I photographed this surreal, utterly mesmerizing oceanfront while working on the @ナショナルジオグラフィック story, The Calm Before the Storm, a story on science of tsunamis. The frothing foam gently cresting waves light by bright lights behind me on the beach, mixing and swirling from incoming and outgoing waves, creating this natural pattern of near otherworldly beauty. This image was in the final projection of the story, falling to the editing floor in layout — the power and purpose for a National Geographic story is that of storytelling, not only ones favorite images.
