Time for ‪#‎TrilobiteTuesday! The fossil record tells us that certain trilobites lived for relatively short periods of time in particular spots, while other genuses popped up in rocks found in just about every corner of the globe. This Trimerus (Dipleura) boliviensis from the Devonian-age Belen formation of Bolivia is clearly of the latter variety. Similar examples have appeared in both Silurian and Devonian layers in New York, Indiana, England and Morocco. Such wide distribution—as well as a life span covering over 80 million years—would indicate that this bottom-dwelling species was among the most successful members of the entire trilobite lineage.
