Prior to his second and final Spanish sojourn (1877–84), #FranciscoOller was named court painter to King Amadeo I. In this role he created official portraits, paintings of private interiors, landscapes, and a rare contemporary history painting titled The Battle of Treviño (1879). An unusually large work for Oller, this battle scene is striking for its jewel-like color and suggestion of frenzied activity.
