????WHY this has been going on for this long for yet another year, breaks my heart. Eyes need to open to the lives of countless wildlife, the health of humans, our oxygen suppliers and our natural air purifiers being burned down and destroyed and causing massive amount of global warming! Borneo is burning, and I am here documenting the effects on people and wildlife. The air is thick with smoke here in Palangaka Raya and the PM2.5 air quality index is off the charts… over 1000 on most days (over 300 is considered very hazardous to health. (see http://aqicn.org/map/ for world air quality info) But like this mother taking her girl to the market because school is cancelled, people are going about their lives. While many people wear face masks to try to give themselves some protection, many, like the one worn by this girl, are not really effective in blocking particles harmful to health. Meanwhile the fires continue to burn outside town in this ongoing tragedy, and people are still starting new ones.
