Now on display: these small treasures, brought by children who immigrated to the United States. These include a doll, purse, and passport brought to Miami by refugee children under Operation Pedro Pan (Peter Pan), which saw over 14,000 youths sent out of Cuba by their parents to prevent them from growing up under communism.
These are part of the story of the Hart Celler Immigration and Nationality Act, which turns 50 today. Incubated in civil rights, the act had far-reaching consequences for our #immigration system.
