A Great White Shark appears in the green, murky waters off Cape Cod Massachusetts. This region is a newly forming hub of white shark activity, with the sharks arriving in summer to feed on seals and remaining here through the fall. According to historical record, the seals here were wiped out in the late 1600s and have only rebounded in recent years due to the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972. The sharks appear to be following some ancient pattern, a coding within their brain that tells them to come here as their ancestors did long ago. The situation developing here could be compared to a new pride of lions emerging in Africa. Yet so much remains unknown and researchers are trying to learn more about these shark’s elusive lives.
