Time to turn the spotlight on America's Big Cat: Cougars, especially those living around #L.A., such as P-22 who I photographed for a @ナショナルジオグラフィック story on #Cougars, and who is now the Poster Boy for the recently launched ‪#‎SaveLaCougars campaign. This image ran on the front page of the @LATimes 2 years ago and seemed to start the conversation about the overpass!
Today plans were announced - California plans to build a wildlife overpass to link wildlife habitat segmented by the 101 Freeway in L.A.The overpass will give local wildlife, such as cougars, coyotes and bobcats, a better chance of survival by giving them the space they need to hunt and breed. The National Wildlife Federation and its partner, the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, have launched the #SaveLACougars campaign to help make this crossing a reality. LA Times reported “I don’t know anywhere where people have tried to put such a large wildlife crossing over such a busy highway in such an urban landscape,” said Seth Riley, who has led the mountain lion study for the National Park Service.
