In it, a displaced young man stands on the staircase of the old Kabul Cinema, a building destroyed during the Afghan Civil War of the 1990s. At the time I took this picture, I had no idea I was going to spend almost 10 years of my life working in this country. Afghanistan was my first ‘real war,’ a war that, in retrospect, came to define a generation of photojournalists that matured in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.” -Moises Saman
