"The #HangoutFest artist compound is the best of any festival in the country — because its pool is the Gulf of Mexico. I came home to Alabama for Hangout Music Festival to show the world its beaches, and, as it's just two hours from New Orleans, #WinButler and Regine Chassagne came up the Gulf to spend the weekend on the turquoise waters. As a surprise, Regine and #PreservationHallJazzBand went onstage for the entirety of Win’s DJ set, with Win as DJ Windows 98 and #BenJaffe as DJ White Noise. If there's YouTube video of it, you'll see some legendary New Orleans musicians playing along to sissy bounce classics, Fela Kuti, Kanye and more. After a sweaty set in the seafood restaurant on the festival grounds, Ben and Win ran into the ocean together for a portrait put together by legendary Jazzfest publicist David Foster. I'll never know how he talked them into it, and I'll never ask him.
