In the steel town of Braddock, Pennsylvania, industry pollution ravaged the environment and destroyed the health of many residents. Photographer and @TEDFellow LaToya Ruby Frazier was among them. She now battles with Lupus, and her mother suffers from an unknown neurological disorder. In her new book, ‘The Notion of Family,’ she aims to show the industry’s harmful effects in a compelling visual history of the town. “How often in American culture do people show the photographs that are the truth about what happens when we’re affected by industry?” she asks.
