What you're seeing here is the earliest photograph of the Orion Nebula, taken in in 1880 by Henry Draper, a pioneer in photographing space. Draper captured this historic image using a 50-minute-long exposure. Currently, Museum astrophysicists are searching through early photographs of the night sky and helping to digitize them along the way.
