Today in 1953: The Academy Awards ceremony is televised for the first time, 14 years after "The Wizard of Oz" is a winner.

Before it became a movie, it was a novel by L. Frank Baum. More than a dozen people worked to write and edit the movie script. This page from an early version of the script notes the change from black and white to color. In this famous scene, Dorothy steps out of her farmhouse into Oz and says to her dog Toto, "I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." Note: not currently on display.
