The double #PurpleBloboftheWeek comes courtesy of two tropical cyclones in the Southern Hemisphere. First, the powerful, Severe Tropical Cyclone Pam continues to pound Vanuatu while tracking to the south. Pam is expected to provide a long period N swell for parts of New Zealand though the winds and conditions will be an issue as the cyclone is expected to track just north of the North Island. We will also be monitoring Pam to send swell to Australia’s East Coast as we move through the weekend and into early next week. Going further out, we will need to watch what happens as Pam transitions into an extratropical storm as the system could send SW swell to the Americas towards the end of the month.
The other, smaller Purple Blob is courtesy of Tropical Cyclone Nathan which is currently located south of Papua New Guinea. TC Nathan is expected to track E then SE into the Coral Sea over the weekend and into early next week. We will be closely monitoring Nathan for any swell potential for Australia, New Caledonia and New Zealand next week. #SurflineForecast @KKorteSurfline
