These three timepieces in our collection would like to remind you: it's daylight saving time! ?The clock with the curvey "waist:" Some makers in the 19th century experimented with spring-driven movements. The use of the spring-drive meant that manufacturers no longer had to build elongated cases to accommodate falling weights, which made possible the characteristic acorn shape of this clock, from about 1849. ?The tooth: This unfinished watch stand from the 19th century is made from a sperm whale tooth. ?The fancy gold one: This clock, made c. 1850 by Aaron Crane, employed a torsion pendulum that slowly revolved about the vertical axis in alternating directions. It worked with such freedom of friction that it was capable of running for extremely long periods.
