James Baldwin was an American author and civil rights activist. His works of fiction won him great acclaim, his most famous being the novel Go Tell It on the Mountain. James reported on the American Civil Rights Movement for publications around the world and was one of the marchers in Selma. Baldwin was gay and his novel Giovanni's Room is considered one of the best LGBT novels of all time. Baldwin died in France in 1987, he was 63. #TheyWereHere
