Photo by @shonephoto (Robbie Shone) - For most of their lives, Cicadas live underground as nymphs at depths ranging from about 30 centimetres (0.98 ft) down to 2.5 metres (8.2 ft). In the final stages as a nymph they construct an exit tunnel to the surface and emerge, find a nearby plant and then molt, shedding their exoskeleton (pictured). Photograph taken late one evening from deep in the Bornean rainforest following a few welcomed rest days whilst exploring caves in Mulu National Park, in Sarawak.
