Earlier today, the National Tiger Conservation Authority of India released findings from their 2014 tiger census showing India's population of tigers to be 2,226. The number is promising, but the report still noted that the future of tigers in India depends on "maintaining undisturbed core habitats for breeding tiger populations, habitat connectivity and protection from poaching of tigers and their prey." We visited Ranthambhore National Park last year and were fortunate to see three different tigers over a couple of days. There should never be a day where these beautiful creatures are no longer living in the wild.
