In the January issue of the @ナショナルジオグラフィック is a story, “First Glimpse” about the search for the shadow universe surrounding us. Scientist are learning to detect other things #DarkMatter & #DarkEnergy. What can be seen is only a fraction of what is believed to be around us.
A research assistant at Stanford University, John Mark Kreikebaum, works in a clean room inspecting silicon disks that might one day register the subtle energy signal of dark matter particles. These particles, which are thought to be everywhere, but have yet to me observed are key clues to the understanding of the universe. The invisible majority consists of 27% dark matter and 68% dark energy. To keep the noise from cosmic rays away from the silicon detecter they will be placed deep in a mine, thus capturing a cleaner reading.
